SOLDIER POET

In Aleppo, two American Army Rangers rescue an injured Syrian woman about to give birth. At a nearby hospital, a neonatal nurse with an unwavering sense of duty struggles to save the lives of infants as her hospital is bombed.

“ An intricately woven piece, both heartfelt and intellectually focused; the precision is especially masterful, every moment is positioned and honed to serve the whole. The central, core relationship -- Ben and Connor -- and their resulting dialectic about the morality of Aleppo and the fungible definition of heroism is a compelling one. And they are pushed up against a powerful force, Qamar, a unique and distinctive (anti-) heroine, one we lean forward in our seats to hear and learn from. Strong storytelling; formidable work, eloquent and highly theatrical. ”

“ Bravery. Choosing the unexpected. Analyzing your mission. Forging connection. Adapting and evolving. This describes not only the characters' path in SOLDIER POET, but also Theatre Prometheus' approach in choosing to produce the world premiere work. The theater company should be applauded for staging SOLDIER POET, a moving and thought-provoking new work set amid the fall of Aleppo and the turmoil of the Syrian civil war."
